What is TRU?
The Tobacco Resistance Unit is a tobacco control statewide movement in Pennsylvania designed to empower and train youth, age 12-18 through PACT (Pennsylvania Alliance to Control Tobacco). Each Pennsylvania Health District will be represented in the tobacco control statewide youth movement.
How does it work?
TRU is designed to be a youth-led organization. Two (2) youth from each Health District will be chosen to particpate on a leadership board and collabrate with others across the state. These members will help start TRU groups in their home Health Districts and create tobacco-free events to spread the word about being tobacco free.
Who can be involved?
Any youth between the ages of 12 and 18 can particpate. Those between 15 and 18 can be nominated for the Youth Leadership Board. We also need adult advisors who will help start TRU teams in their Health District and assist with member recruitment.
Where can I get more information?
You can get more information about the program on TRU's website, their Facebook page, or their Twitter account. If you're interested in particpating or nominating someone for the TRU leadership board, contact Tracy Ingram with the American Lung Association in Pennsylvania.
